One of the rewards from our crowdfunding campaign in June 2021 was Native Apple Berry Seeds (Billardiera scandens). A few community members got together in early August 2021 to learn about smoke water treatement and to plant the seeds. These seeds sprouted and have grown into healthy seedlings, ready for planting in our park in May 2022! Thank you Blake for sharing your expertise with us and caring for the seedlings.
The plant is a small understory shrub with white or pink bell flowers in spring. The small fruit look and taste a little like kiwi fruit. The fruit ripen from purple to yellow. They can be eaten raw when ripe, or cooked if not yet ripe.
